Rent a Linux server in Germany: LXC or VM

Your own Linux server on our infrastructure in German data centres, with NVMe storage, a DPA and German support. The default is an LXC container with near bare-metal performance; if you need your own kernel or Windows, you book the same size as a full VM. You configure, we provision, usually the same business day.

Why with us

Sovereign, not interchangeable

LXC or VM

More performance through containers, a full VM when you need it

The default is an LXC container: it shares the host machine's kernel and therefore runs with almost no virtualisation overhead. The result is near bare-metal CPU and NVMe performance, a lean memory footprint and provisioning in seconds rather than minutes.

If you need your own kernel, custom kernel modules, Windows or maximum isolation, book the same size as a full VM (KVM). You simply pick the virtualisation in the configurator, we handle the rest.

  • LXC: near bare-metal performance, ideal for web, Docker and databases
  • VM (KVM): your own kernel, Windows possible, maximum isolation
  • Same sizes, same NVMe base, same-day provisioning

Frequently asked

Questions about this offer

What is an LXC container?

A lightweight container-based Linux server: your own system, IP and root access, but more efficient and faster to provision than a classic VM.

LXC or VM, which fits me?

For web and app servers, Docker, databases and most Linux workloads, LXC is the faster and more efficient choice because there is no hypervisor overhead. You need a VM if you require your own kernel, custom kernel modules, Windows or maximum isolation. The same size is available as a VM with a 35 % surcharge.

Where are the servers located?

In German data centres, on our own hardware. A DPA under Art. 28 GDPR is part of the contract.

What does the managed service cover?

System updates, security hardening, monitoring with alerting and support. You use the server, we keep it healthy.
